SW 79th Avenue is a key corridor for pedestrians and bicyclists traveling to and from Durham Elementary. Traffic and speed data show a trend of drivers traveling above the posted speed on this street. The city is conducting a corridor study of SW 79th Avenue between SW Bonita Road and SW Durham Road to better understand travel behavior and neighborhood needs.
The outcome of this study will inform potential near-term and longer-term changes to the corridor.
Potential near-term changes include:
Restriping of the street in coordination with an upcoming slurry seal project
Changes to signage
Potential longer-term changes include:
Neighborhood traffic calming measures
Sidewalks on 79th Avenue
Traffic signalization changes
Urban street upgrades including stormwater and drainage features
