Streets for People is returning to Tigard for a second season to support safe and healthy neighborhood access to trails and schools!
When the COVID-19 pandemic began in early 2020, we saw a drastic reduction in auto traffic and a significant increase in residents walking and bicycling on city streets to stay active and healthy. More than a year into the pandemic, auto traffic is starting to return to normal levels, but our community is still enjoying our outdoor spaces with increased walking and rolling activity on our city streets and trails. The Streets for People program helps make sure people have the space to travel safely under these changed conditions.
Last year we launched our Pilot Project to strong community support. This year we're adding two additional locations to the original pilot program location. At each of the three locations, we're installing temporary "pop-up" traffic calming measures to alert drivers of increased walking and biking activity on neighborhood streets.
Streets for People Locations:
Fanno Creek Trail to Pathfinder Trail
We are returning to the original pilot location connecting Fanno Creek Trail to the Pathfinder Trail.
95th Avenue
This new location connects neighborhoods and schools to the Tigard Heritage Trail, adding pedestrian access in an underserved neighborhood with limited pedestrian options.
Fern Street
This new location connects neighborhoods to the Ascension Trail improving pedestrian access to a mid-street trailhead.
