Downtown Tigard's Universal Plaza

Your City is focused on transforming Downtown Tigard into a place where people live, gather, stay and play.

To achieve this vision the City's Urban Renewal Agency has purchased a piece of property on SW Burnham St. in Tigard's Downtown to transform into a future plaza! Envisioned as the most important public space, the future plaza will be a hub of activity, a stimulus for downtown’s continued redevelopment, and an emblem of civic pride and identity for Tigard residents.

Located on SW Burnham Street the future Plaza will connect to the Fanno Creek Trail which has been recently restored to follow its historical meandering course through planted native vegetation on its banks.

The future Universal Plaza will be a place that brings people of all ages to Downtown Tigard, at all times of day and throughout the year. Through your feedback and the results of a Public Life, Public Space survey of Downtown, we heard that key components of appealing public spaces include:

  • Protection: A space that feels safe, protected from cars, crime and from unpleasant sensory experiences like noise, pollution, rain and/or wind.
  • Comfortable: A space that invites visitors to stop, stay, sit, rest and play any time of day and night. Offering high quality access for people walking, places and activities.
  • Enjoyment: A space that is of a human scale with framing edges and high aesthetic qualities. Offering multiple opportunities to enjoy the space in all weather and conditions.

The vision for the future plaza and its amenities is still yet to be decided and that's where we need your help in shaping Downtown!

Get involved by:

  • 1. Taking a Quick Poll about some proposed amenities. There are three questions to answer.
  • 2. Tell Us Your Thoughts on what amenities you would like to see and what would attract more visitors to Downtown!
