To make the City of Tigard’s services, programs, building facilities, parks, and public right-of-way accessible to all, the city has updated its American with Disabilities Act (ADA) Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan. The plan demonstrates the City of Tigard’s commitment to providing equal access to all.

A lot of effort has gone into identifying barriers that make it difficult for people with disabilities to access services, participate, and navigate our community comfortably. The city is committed to removing those barriers to improve access for everyone. We want to prioritize the work in a way that Tigard residents understand and support. Therefore, we need your help! Here is how you can:

  1. Review Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan (Appendices)

The Americans with Disabilities Act is a civil rights act signed into law in 1990 by President George HW Bush.

In the process of having our facilities evaluated, almost 3,000 curbs were measured, public spaces in 9 buildings were evaluated and 20 parks were evaluated.

The ADA applies to existing or new sidewalks and curb ramps. However, it doesn’t require an agency to put in sidewalks where none exist.

Hall Blvd and Pacific Hwy are under the jurisdiction of the Oregon Department of Transportation. That state agency is responsible for removing curb ramp or sidewalk barriers along those roads.

The ADA defines a service animal as a dog, or sometimes a small horse, individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability.
