Route Description

The northernmost trail segment starts at the existing Bonita Road crossing at the intersection of Milton Court. The trail follows Fanno Creek to the riparian greenspace referred to as Bonita Natural Area. Due to the limited undeveloped space along Fanno Creek, this segment may impact properties on either side of the creek.

Heading south from Bonita Road, the following three alignment options are under evaluation:

1: The trail is located on the west side of Fanno Creek, on the Bonita Villa Apartment property. The project team is considering how the trail could be located along the bank without requiring the removal of parking. This option has one bridge over the creek.

2: The trail is located on the east side of Fanno Creek along an industrial property parking lot and then into the creek corridor. The project team is considering how the trail could be located along the bank without requiring the removal of parking. This option has two bridges crossing Fanno Creek.

3: The trail is located along the east side industrial property for a longer distance and crosses over Ball Creek. Compared to Option 2, this option stays on the industrial property for a longer distance, but has less floodplain impacts and one less bridge.

South of options 1 through 3 described above, the trail alignment traverses a large open space which is a potential location for floodplain and wetland restoration. This section has great views and connections to nature for trail users. A long boardwalk section allows the landscape to function hydraulically while providing a positive user experience.

The southern part of this segment crosses the creek and enters a forested section of the corridor providing an interesting contrast to the trail experience to the north.

As shown in purple, this segment includes additional trails to provide access to the Fanno Creek Trail for maintenance access and neighborhood connections.
